About Wellington
Wellington is a village located in Prince County in the western portion of Prince Edward Island. Its
precise location is N 46°27′, W 64°00′. Wellington (Village) was incorporated in 1959 and its status
changed to Community by the Municipalities Act in 1983. Its population according to the 2011 census is
409.
Wellington is located along Route 124, just off Route 2, twenty kilometres west of Summerside. It is a cozy neighbourhood of approximately 400 residents,
serviced with a fire department and sewer utility. The Ellis River flows through the core of the
community, which also has a dam, fish ladder, pond, and recreational park allowing residents and visitors
to enjoy the natural outdoors.
The Community of Wellington serves the surrounding area as a regional hub for commerce and services.
Several businesses and establishments are therefore located in the Community, including the Provincial Credit Union-Évangéline , Wellington Co-op, The Cooperators, Murphy’s Pharmacy, Chez Island Restaurant,
Wellington Esso and Service Station, Wellington Boys & Girls Club, Seniors Home, Le Chez-Nous, Royal Canadian
Legion - Branch 17, Canada Post, and Access PEI to name a few. It is also a bilingual community, being located in the center of the Evangeline area.
